§ 11-11-40. Pumps and strainers.

  • (a)

    Pump. A removable and reinstallable pump(s) shall be installed with adequate capacity for the required turnover time specified in section 11-11-37(b). Whenever possible, the pump(s) shall be so located as to eliminate the need for priming. If the pump(s) or suction piping is located above the overflow level of the swimming pool, the pump(s) shall be self-priming. The pump(s) shall be capable of providing a flow adequate for the backwashing of filters. Pumps shall be securely supported.

    (b)

    Hair and lint strainer. All pump systems shall have a hair and lint strainer. The hair and lint strainer baskets shall be corrosion resistant with openings not exceeding one-eighth inch in size, which provide a free flow area of at least four times the area of the pump suction line at the strainer connection, and shall be accessible for frequent cleaning. An extra hair and lint strainer basket shall be provided for each hair and lint strainer. (Ord. No. 4649, 3/13/10, Sec. 1)
