§ 12-8-2. Composition; appointment; term; vacancy; chairperson; compensation of members.

  • The board shall consist of 13 members who shall be appointed by the city council; five (5) of whom shall be parents, three (3) of whom shall be clients of the department of social services and five (5) of whom shall be citizens-at-large. In the event that an insufficient number of parents or clients apply for the vacancy to be filled from those groups, the vacancy may be filled by a citizen-at-large. Members shall be appointed for terms of three (3) years each except that any vacancies shall be filled by the council for the unexpired portion of a term. The city manager shall be an ex officio member, without a vote on the board. A chairperson and a vice chairperson shall be chosen by a majority vote of all the members of the board. Members shall serve without compensation but may receive such reimbursement for expenses, subject to appropriation by council. (Code 1963, Sec. 2-168; Ord. No. 2615, 9/22/81, Sec. 1)
