§ 2-1-19. Form and style of ordinances; when ordinances to be effective.

  • Every ordinance, except the annual appropriation ordinances and an ordinance codifying ordinances, shall be confined to a single subject, which shall be clearly expressed in title. All ordinances shall be introduced in typewritten or printed form or a combination of both. All ordinances which repeal or amend existing ordinances shall identify by title the section or subsection to be repealed or amended. The enacting clause of all ordinances shall be: "The City Council of Alexandria hereby ordains." Unless another date is specified therein and except as otherwise provided in the charter, an ordinance shall take effect on the date of its final passage. (Code 1963, Sec. 2-20)
